2. Fishing The Smith River
The Smith River Trip is the one of the west best small river multi day camping/fishing expeditions available. The prime time to fish the Smith is mid June– after the end of the spring runoff, but before the river becomes too shallow to float. The State of Montana only allows a limited number of permits to float the river each year. 12,000+ people are in line for 2,500 permits. Some of those permits are allocated to Outfitting operations, which allows us to by-pass the lottery and enjoy a prime time. The scenery will be the rippling river, mountains, canyons and fields of wild flowers. The fishing will be more competitive than the many small streams, but there will be plenty of opportunities. Each raft for two will have a fishing guide. There will ve a gear boat that will go ahead each morning to set up camp for the night. A guests job is to fish, sight-see and enjoy camp
Plan on arriving in Great Falls the day before the trip. We will be heading out to Camp Baker about 7:00 am the morning of and expect to be on the water and fishing by 11:00 am. We put in at Camp Baker, which is about 20 miles NW of White Sulfur Springs, MT. The trip down river is 62 miles and will take 5 days and 4 nights. From the take out at Eden Bridge, it will be a 45 minute drive back to Great Falls.
The cost of the trip will be $4,100 plus your Montana fishing license, lodging and meals on the day be for and the day after.
